Featuring
Australian country music legend Allan Caswell and two of
Australia's hottest new acts Rose Carleo and Drew
McAlister. Al's Bar and Grill
The Show! Is a very exciting blend of Classic
Country, Country Rock and Country that Rocks. The show
comes in two formats, fully self-contained with a
four-piece band or in an intimate acoustic mode. Either
way the combination of Allan Caswell, Drew McAlister and
Rose Carleo is irresistible.
The
show consists of solo spots by these three fine artists
as well as a combined set of duets and country classics.
The creative bond between Allan and Drew goes back to
Allan's Al's Bar and Grill al-bum. Drew co wrote half the
album, including A Little Bit of Country In Us All, which
they recorded as a duet. The track won the pair the
coveted Golden Guitar for Vocal Collaboration of the Year
in Tamworth in 2007. This was Drew's first Golden Guitar
and Allan's sixth. Allan then repaid the favour by co
writing eight of the songs on Drew's brilliant debut
album From There To Here.
When Rose was gathering songs for her highly acclaimed
first album Everything I Need she asked Allan and Drew to
help her write songs for the album. The pair also
contrib-uted the beautiful Sometimes You Just Know, which
she recorded as a duet with Drew. This track won Rose and
Drew a TIARA and saw them nominated for several other
awards including the 2008 Vocal Collaboration Golden
Guitar
Apart from a wonderful working relationship, Allan, Rose
and Drew have developed a really strong friendship, which
is evident every time they work together on stage. As a
performer, Allan Caswell has always subscribed to the
theory that his job is to entertain rather than to
educate. His show is a potent mixture of "Allan Caswell"
songs, classic country and country rock. Whether he is
working solo, with friend and piano virtuoso Dave Skinner
(ex Roxy Music) or with their band, the same effort goes
in.
"I'm proud to say that he is, in my opinion, one of the
most gifted singer/songwriters this country has ever
produced
Allan Caswell is a talent that all
Australia deserves to hear whether he is singing or
speaking
" Alan Jones
"Having seen Allan's work for Souths, I can promise he
will write you a song to stir your heart, soul and, if
need be, loins" Andrew Denton
"With his skills as a performer and his unique ability as
a songwriter, Allan really sets the mood for an evening -
Book him now!" Max Markson
Allan
Caswell: In 2007 when Allan Caswell won his sixth
Golden guitar in Tamworth (with Drew McAlister for "Vocal
Collaboration Of The Year"), it marked 27 years since his
first Golden Guitar in 1980. In the years in between
Allan has experienced the highs and lows of a very
successful and hugely varied career.
Highlights: His song "On the Inside" (the theme for the
television "Prisoner") reached No.1 in Australia and New
Zealand, No.3 in England and made the Country Charts in
the USA (his own version was a top 20 country hit in
Europe in 2004)
At last count, Caswell has had well over 800 songs
published and over 500 recordings of his songs released
world wide by artists of the calibre of Cilla Black, The
Irish Rovers, Patti Page, Slim Dusty, James Blundell and
The Liv-ing End.
Allan Caswell's career as an entertainer has taken him to
almost every town in NSW, every state in Australia, to
New York, LA, Nashville, New Zealand, East Timor, Iraq
and Afghanistan. He has worked live with Garth Brooks,
Don McLean, Gerry and the Pacemakers, Herman's Hermits,
Pam Ayers and The Little River Band and in the studio
with Tommy Emmanuel, Vince Gill, Kathy Mattea and Highway
101.
At the height of The America's Cup hysteria when
Australia 2 was in trouble, Caswell wrote and released
"The Australia's Cup". The record, recorded for $38 and
released independently, went to No.1 in Sydney and top 5
nationally. He has been awarded 6 Golden Guitars at
Tamworth (and a finalist 28 times), 2 Gold singles and an
ARIA for "On the Inside", as well as 1 platinum and 4
gold albums for his writing and production work on the
hugely successful children's albums by Don Spencer.
Caswell's work with Don Spencer has led to one of the
"most rewarding and exciting" aspects of his career. When
Don started The Australian Children's Music Foundation he
asked Allan to run workshops for kids in juvenile
de-tention and special schools in Sydney, teaching music
and song writing. Not only is this programme proving
successful in Sydney but has now expanded to regional
NSW, Canberra and Tasmania.
In 2005 Caswell had his first book "Writing Great Song
Lyrics" published. His second book, "Split
Personalities", a book of poetry written in
collabo-ration with his best selling author brother,
Brian is nearing completion. He also works as a freelance
journalist.
Rose
Carleo: What makes Rose Carleo so special is,
ironically, the fact that she's just like everyone else.
Well, apart from the fact that she has a rare ability to
take those experiences we've all lived through, and turn
them into remarkable songs with a universal appeal.
Then she opens her mouth and conveys the pain, the
passion and the emo-tion of her songs in a way that
touches everyone who hears them. Rose is a real woman
who's been through plenty in her relatively short life.
But she's also someone who takes everything that happens
on board, learning from it and turning it into a powerful
musical experience.
Rose's musical career began back in Western Australia,
when her mother Mary - a respected country music promoter
- challenged her to take to the stage. Sadly, Mary passed
away when Rose was still a teenager, but she's remained
her daughter's inspiration.
"I've been through a fair bit in my life. My mum became
ill when I was very young, and I spent a lot of my
childhood looking after her. I had to grow up fast, and I
guess I experienced things early on that many people
never do. Because of that, I'm grounded way beyond my
years, and have a real appreciation of and respect for
life," Rose said.
Rose became a professional singer in her hometown of
Perth, singing backing vocals for Jimmy Barnes and
supporting Vanessa Amorosi, as well as doing gigs around
Perth and further afield. A couple of years ago, Rose
moved to Brisbane, where she recorded her debut EP with
Brendan Radford, releasing two successful singles,
"Freedom" and "Whisper", and attracting the attention of
leading music industry figures.
In 2007, she was a finalist in the Toyota Star Maker
Quest, and went on to release her debut album, Everything
I Need, again produced by Brendan and featuring a swag of
great songs co written with the likes of Allan Caswell,
Drew McAlister, Brendan Radford, Casey Watt and Michael
Fix. She's released two singles from the album: "Til I
Find Me Again", and most recently the gutsy "It's Not Me,
It's You". Everything I Need also features the exquisite
duet "Sometimes You Just Know" with Golden Guitar winner
Drew McAlister.
During 2007, Rose was named the Silver Medallion winner
for Best New Talent at the Queensland Gold Medallion
Awards. Rose's songs are contemporary tales of taking
control, of accepting that things aren't always what you
hoped, and moving on.
"When I'm writing songs, I look for catalysts - maybe
things that have happened to me, but often stuff I've
observed in other people's lives. The crucial thing is to
find a universal message in the song, something everyone
can relate to," Rose said. "I see Everything I Need as a
really positive album, even though it explores a wide
range of emotions," Rose said. It's about taking control
and living live to the fullest - about making the most of
where you are and what you have."
True to its title, this album provides everything you
need to show that Rose Carleo is one of the finest
emerging singer songwriters in Aus-tralian country
music. Susan Jarvis, Capital News and ABC Radio's

Drew
McAlister: Born in Narrabri and raised in
Moree in country New South Wales, Drew McAlister grew up
listening to Bryan Adams, Noiseworks and Slim Dusty and
started singing at age 7. One of four children, after
finishing school at the age of 18, Drew decided to take
his music ability seriously and left the country for the
dazzling lights of Sydney. He immediately picked up
session work for major brand television and radio
jingles. During the next few of years, Drew continued to
write his songs, performed in many different bands and
appeared on "The Midday Show" and "Hey Hey It's Saturday"
numerous times. Drew then toured Australia with the
production of "Jesus Christ Superstar", before eventually
landing a recording deal with EMI.
After several years of writing and performing in the
R&B/pop style, Drew parted ways with the label
knowing in his heart that this was not his direction and
that he was more at ease with Contemporary Country. Drew
resumed session work and in 1998 signed a worldwide
publishing deal with EMI with over 140 songs in his
catalogue.
For the next 2 years he visited the US four times
collaborating with many different songwriters, but it was
a trip to Nashville that finally made sense for Drew.
Collaborating with Heather Field [Tina Arena/Tania
Kernaghan/Troy Cassar-Daley], Drew spent a few weeks
writing and immersing him self in the Nashville scene.
Coming home, Drew started to write the songs that had
been inside him just waiting to get out.
In 2003, Drew took out the Gympie Muster "New Talent"
award which spearheaded interest and support from the
country scene, industry and artists alike. He was then
invited by Graham Thompson of Compass Bros Records to
perform "The Shearer's Dream" on the "Australian
Storytellers" compilation album. At Tamworth 2004 he
performed many shows including supports with Tania
Kernaghan, Tamara Stewart and Allan Caswell, plus the
1200 strong audience at the Maton Guitar showcase. He has
also shared the stage with Beccy Cole, Adam Harvey, Sara
Storer, Melinda Schneider, Mike Carr, Anne McCue and
others.
In September 2004 Drew was asked to go to Iraq along with
several other Australian entertainers to perform for the
Australian and Coalition troops. Drew spent 2 weeks at
various locations and played 10 shows. It was also that
same year Drew recorded his debut country EP which
spawned the country hits "Going Home" and "Broken
Angels"
In January 2007, all of Drew's hard work started to pay
off - winning his first Golden Guitar Award for Vocal
Collaboration of the Year with Allan Caswell ("A Little
Bit of Country In Us All") and also picking up finalist
spots for the TSA & TIARA Awards.
Throughout 2007 Drew
wrote and recorded the song "Along For The Ride" for the
annual Tour De Cure Charity Bike Ride, performed the
theme to the Australian feature film, "The Final Winter"
and toured with The Aussie Highwaymen alongside Mike
Carr, Jake Nickolai and Nick Kingswell. But the highlight
was the realization of a dream - he completed recording
his self-produced debut album. Titled, "There To Here",
the album is a collection of 14 of songs which showcase
the heart, soul and life of Drew McAlister and testament
to one of Australia's most exciting new
singer/songwriters.
2008 looks set to be
another big year for Drew McAlister with nominations in
the Country Music Awards of Australia, TSA and Victorian
& National Country Music Awardswell as more touring
around Australia. "There to Here" is released February
16th through Compass Bros Distribution.
