Matthew Lloyd, is already receiving lots of music industry attention with his latest album Hardlines. The album, dedicated to Matthews late father Bill, was released last week and has a great mix of tracks that should appeal to many listeners. Rock, a little bit of country, a little bit of folk, and some more rock, this album is Matthews finest yet!Matthews songwriting abilities and vocals have matured, resulting in an album of exceptional quality. Matthews ability to tell a great story displays his lyrical talents, and certainly The ballad of Tommy Clarke is great testimony to this.
The album brings a very diverse mix of songs, with ballads like In my babys eyes, love songs; You give me wings (this one is brilliant) and Angel (1000 miles from home). When I say love songs I certainly dont mean schmaltz either, these are great tracks!
Matthews introspective views on society and current issues are evident in all of the tracks, he writes about love, money, religion, corruption and crime and a whole lot more.
Matthew has certainly collected the finest musicians together to produce this album. The brilliant guitar work on this album will get many a toe tapping and head nodding, many thanks to Matthew, and Pol OShea who has had heaps of international experience.. We hear some fine violin too from Alec Mitchell on The ballad of Tommy Clarke. And how could we not mention the quality drumming of Matthew Swain.
Matthew and his band are set to hit the States with a storm next month when they go over to embark on a tour to promote 'Hardlines'.
You only did it for the money has been released as a single in the States and is already getting tons of airplay, and so it should, as this song has lots to say. For those of you who enjoyed Posh Urban Skiffle, do yourselves a favour and get a copy of Hardlines, Hardlines really shines, a big 9 out of 10 for this one. Well done guys.
